1 in 6 American men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer this year—More than 32,000men will die from this disease this year alone.
As you can see from my blog, on May 29th, 2008 I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer at age 41. It has been an incredible journey, but after 3+ years I am cancer free! Because I am so blessed I want to make a difference in the lives of others affected by this disease and those who need education about the importance of proactive screening. It’s my mission to continue raising awareness and funds to find a cure for this disease. It’s also an honor to be a part of Team Winter to help raise awareness and funds to find a cure for Prostate Cancer through the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
On November 6th, I will be running in the 2011 ING New York City Marathon to help in the fight against this disease. I have chosen another marathon because that's what it will take to win the battle against Prostate Cancer! The team at the Prostate Cancer Foundation runs a marathon everyday to try and find a cure and I want to join them in their quest.
I am deep into my training for this event and am inspired by the support you have shown me in the past and would appreciate your support once again as I run 26.2 miles for a cure. Its been an inspiration reading your journey. I share a similiar situation with you but have yet to go through it. On Oct. 25th I was diagnosed with prostate cancer at 40 years old. I am still trying to sort through all the options and still am undecided as to what to do. It is comforting to find people in a similiar situation as me that has gone through this. When the Doctors say that I am an anomoly and the youngest they have seen it really doesnt make me feel any better but at least it was caught early. My results are below:
2 of 12 biopsies were cancer
Gleason score 6 in both
trace amount of blood in the urine 1 year before was my only symptom.
However, it does run in both sides of my family.
Not sure where to go from here. I have narrowed it down to radiation or surgery but, with both options, its a hard pill to swallow. Your blog is great but, if possible, I would love to talk to you sometime since our situations are so similiar. Hi all, Prostate cancer is usually discovered in mature men, but may be discovered in youthful men as well. As a man years, the prostate can expand. This situation is known as harmless prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH.
